I've begun to make a few accessories, inspired by the rain & high cost of fabric in Stockholm. Here is my first attempt. This was made out of a sunglasses case, left over jersey knit, scraps from a pair of shorts and an extra long shoe lace. I've worn it as a necklace and as a belt so far...

glasses:cheapo
coat:altered f21
blazer:thrift town (van husen!)
tank:richard chai for target
tube top:monki
jeans:h&m
boots:thrift town
scarf:self made

it started to rain today and at one point there was a gust of wind that blew all the leaves around me. that made me smile.

this was by far my favorite day of all 4 fashion weeks...I will start with Maison Martin Margiela. I am no authority on fashion...I look at collections with my background in fashion design and textiles science. Interesting sewing techniques, textile manipulations, unusual color schemes and unconventional silhouettes always make me drool. (of course judging from previous posts, I DO like a good old 'cute dress' now and then) I always love when anyone, in and out of the fashion industry challenges the way I think, and certainly Mr. Margiela does that every time. even his 'a wardrobe for women' is full of unexplored territory. after looking at his spring 09 collection, I'm ready to run home and begin sketching out some of the ideas that ricochet from his runway presentation and my design aesthetic.... its not that i want to create duplicates of what he's presented but i'm always intrigued by the way someone in my industry can interpret such complicated visions so seamlessly through a collection of stitched fabric. done are the days where i sweep those (at the time) 'crazy impossible' ideas under my couch. seeing a collection like his makes me feel a little less afraid & sometimes its just the little nudge I need, especially since I've been in an overall designing low in the last few months.

Paris Fashion Week is gearing up to be much better then NYC, London and Milan (in my humble opinion). I'll be watching the shows like a hawk... so far I'm gasping for air. The Bruno Pieters collection is wonderfully tailored, I love the pressed open lapel look, can I rock that at work? perhaps with a sheer blouse underneath... I have been known to push the office attire etiquette more then once.

my male fashion design counterpart

my dress, his suspenders. thanks marc!

this is the laundry room at boys mom's house. i would seriously consider living in it (especially since it has an entire wind/drying room)

forgive me for not updating for a few days, the boy and i have come to southern sweden to vestervik, a small tiny swedish town with three huge churches. although being in a small town usually drives me crazy after 2 days, i survive by shopping my heart out at one of the two charity shops (one of which the boys mom manages so i manage to get in after hours for my own private shopping time!)

i'll post photos of my finds very soon, not to mention my greatest find in a while: black and teal brocade lurex high waist trousers!

dusty dress of the day.
scarf: self made
zip dress: hm
sleeveless blazer: f21
tights: uniqlo

still going through all the Spring 2009 collections, but this Francesco Scognamiglio jumped out at me. it looks like the evil half of the dress is eating the softer, more feminine side of the dress. this is my vision of every vintage re/do project.

jonny lee miller, elizabeth taylor, rufus wainwright (in a white suit of course), sean connery. random actor from 24 and a REALLY HUGE snake. were all featured in last nights dream.

today's outfit. printed tights!

one of my co-workers (gotta love her!) sent me this link for a swedish childrens brand called FRANKA. she does their technical sketches, but i just died of excitement at the most adorable intro. apparently she uses her own kids as models and in the intro. TOO CUTE! turn up your speakers, it'll make the whole experience that much better.

Today the boy and I went to some (3) bookstores after work. I bumped into this charming little magazine, hard covered and beautiful inside and out. it shall stand on my bookshelf soon!

i think this might be the nicest looking photo i have seen in a long time. i almost want to hang up an oversized version in my bedroom...(hmm)

finally my own bowler hat photos a la fashion tale. my favorite favorite co-worker, david gave this hat to me this morning during our monday breakfast. how wonderful is he to know that i've been dying to find one!

my seat assignment at the project runway show... i think they morphed two names together...

david and i almost missed our flight from London to Stockholm because of these toothbrushes. during our one hour layover at Heathrow, we strolled into the Paul Smith Global shop, not usually a stop on my list but we both snatched up a couple of things. i bought the black one for johan, the white one for me. i also bought a vintage fashion illustration (on tracing paper!)

MONKI! I will own these (some i already do)

i own this skirt in plum

i own these in navy and maroon

TOPSHOP UNIQUE:the things i want

(psst..i have a feeling red stonewash denim is going to show up everywhere soon...wont be surprised if i see it at weekday when i return to stockholm.

the collection was not revolutionary or even that unique and it definitely had marc by marc jacobs resort 2008 written all over it but i still might go on a hunt for these pieces.

what do i think of yellow eyeshadow? i adore it like a burrito from cancun taqueria. i have to find the perfect shade of mustard for my skin tone. i also cant seem to find this haunting image of purple eyebrow makeup backstage at bryant park...

we ran into lola on our way back to our pad in the city, she could melt your heart with that smile and hair. this photo could not have turned out better, no matter how hard my camera tried to be shitty (which it does quite well on most occasions)

my outfit on random day. self made/altered skirt, necklace and lovely lovely 5$ thrift boots which KILLED my feet today.
